4 Tips For Planning a Vacation In The Smoky Mountains In The Spring

Spring has finally sprung in the Smoky Mountains! We’re pleased to report that the weather is beautiful, the wildflowers are coming into bloom, and the area is buzzing with all sorts of events and activities. The only thing missing is…you! To help you make the most of your vacation, Moose Hollow Lodge has put together a guide to planning the perfect getaway in the Smoky Mountains in the spring.

1. Make Your Reservations ASAP

Spring is one of the most popular times to visit the Smokies, so we recommend reserving your stay with us as soon as possible. With 9 bedrooms and space for 56 guests, Moose Hollow Lodge provides the ideal accommodations for a family reunion, church retreat, or any other type of large group vacation. Our cabin is particularly attractive during the spring months because our spacious outdoor deck is the perfect place to sit back, relax, and take in beautiful mountain views.

2. Plan a Wildflower Hike

One of the highlights of visiting the Smoky Mountains in the spring is getting the chance to see the area’s beautiful wildflowers. With over 1,500 types of flowering plants in the region, it’s no wonder the Smokies are sometimes called “Wildflower National Park”! The flowers are stunning from mid-March through June, with April being “peak season” for the gorgeous blooms.

The best way to see the wildflowers during your vacation is to take one of the national park’s scenic hikes. Here are some of the most popular wildflower hikes in the Smokies:

  • The Cove Hardwood Self-guiding Nature Trail is a ¾ mile loop with some of the best flowers in the national park.
  • Little River Trail has lovely wildflowers along its first two miles from mid-March through April.
  • The Appalachian Trail offers wonderful wildflower viewing in the 2-mile section between Newfound Gap and Road Prong Trail from mid-April through May.
  • Porters Creek Trail is home to incredible wildflowers from late March through April.

3. Go Horseback Riding or Enjoy an ATV Adventure

When you stay at Moose Hollow Lodge, you’ll be just a short drive from some of the area’s very best outdoor activities. Located a minute away from our cabin, Adventure Park at Five Oaks offers fun horseback rides through over 70 acres of breathtaking mountain trails. In addition to its excellent trail rides, Five Oaks also has Zip Lines to deliver smiles, laughter, and memories to last a lifetime.

Moose Hollow Lodge is also an 8-minute drive from Bluff Mountain Adventures, the premier destination for ATV rides in the Smokies. These thrilling rides will take you through 6,000 acres of gorgeous trails that include streams, majestic views, and plenty of rugged terrain.
